Apparently I did some pixel art

I was sketching something that I thought was a 'sharp' forest drawing.
BUT
After a third year walked by and commented on how they like my 'pixel drawing'
I realized I forgot to put my glasses back on...

THIS, LADIES AND GENTELMEN, IS MY LIFE.

Still I liked how it turned out so I guess we can call it a happy accident.

Concept art (Penryn)

Textured concept art for the Penryn.
Inspired by Paper Cinema, art from Alice Madness Returns and old Victorian photos.

Short & Tall

Characters design for new 2D assignment.
Made them as simple as possible as we will be handing key frames over to another person to animate.
Simple characters with a touch of personality.

Can't wait to see them come to life!

CelAction

My character design for a CelAction walk study.
I feel he captures my Friday morning feels perfectly.

"Must work....*snif snif*....beddd"

Disclosure: I'm not that tired or sick nor have I been forced to work against my will by my tutors.

Paper Cinema aka. stuff of dreams

I have heard of paper cinema before but never actually sat down and researched them or what they do.
I love their interpretation of paper and shadow animation.
Both the illustrative style and the physical layering of the stages bring everything to life.
Without any huge movements! :o

Note: This is the style/atmosphere we are trying to capture in our Penryn project but we are thinking about trying to achieve the layered effect in After effects instead of paper puppets.
Might work or we might have to go back to paper.

Penryn project (Background design)

With the script coming along and our final storyboard finally decided,
I've begun to look at old Penryn photos and playing around with photoshop to try and achieve our layered effect.

So far so good :)

Perspectives

Practice makes perfect.
Have to admit, perspective drawing has always been a fear of mine but I'm glad I have a chance to get over that.
Hopefully over time of studying different perspectives, it will start to flow more naturally in my drawings.
Definitely have an even bigger appreciation for background designers now.

Its been a while...

Perspective drawings but the human version!
Learning how to 'look' and think about what each part of the body is doing.
Muscle, bone and skin.

We are going to be studying lighting in background drawings so its quite interesting making a note of where the light source is and what its hitting.

Shadows

Really wanted to play with shadows and light.
We are learning about perspectives and design principles.
Can't wait to see how it will influence my animation.

Photoshop workshops and whales

Not a painting but sure looks like it.
That texturing made my day.
As well as drawing on photoshop.

Oh and whales in the sky of course.

The Penryn project

Was told today we will be animating a short story.
Cornish Folktales, urban myths and legends.

So here are goblins and fairies!

Character design for walk cycle

Mmm.. look at them long lanky legs
and tired eyes
and glossy hair?

Figured it would be fun trying to animate long legs.
There are so many ways you could go!

Character sketches

What you get with bit of real people, a nudge of imagination, and inspiration.
Drawings of strange looking beings that all seem to look to the right?

Kids and the colour yellow

Seriously, if anyone want a wonderful and FREE program to use for illustrating or doodling
I highly recommend Krita.

The brushes are just the best.

Don't know if I'm doing this right...

But I'll keep trying anyway...

Focus points and red people

Celebrating bras on TVpaint

Drew out the little guy first, trying out the skipping rhythm.
I love how happy he looks!
I makes me smile to see him smile...

Decided to give him some background and bras. Because why not.

This is pretty much what I got up to when I was four/five.
True story.
